The Most Comfortable Fight Shorts. Period.

WrestlingMart’s Signature Fight Short is the perfect training short made for wrestlers, by wrestlers. Seemingly overnight, the “fight short” has become the most popular training gear trend in wrestling. As the name implies, fight shorts were adopted from the mixed martial arts community. You may also hear them referred to as board shorts – you know, for surfing. In fact, you’re likely to see just as many wrestlers training in board shorts or swim trunks as in fight shorts. However, neither of these two styles are really ideal for wrestling. Traditional fight shorts usually are secured at the waist with a Velcro system, rather than an elastic band, and tend to use very rigid (not stretchy) fabric. That may be great for an MMA bout, but we’ve found that the Velcro can become extremely irritating, and the rigid material can be restricting in some of the funky positions wrestler find themselves in. Board shorts usually have more stretch to them, but are generally made with much lighter fabric that can rip or wear out quickly. More importantly, they almost always have a tie or pull string on the outside of the waist band, making it really easy for fingers to get caught while in the middle of a scramble.

WrestlingMart is based in Southern California, a major hub for surfing, MMA, and wrestling. So it stands to reason that we wanted to make the perfect short that combines the utility and durability of a fight short with the style and comfort of a board short AND we added our own tweaks to make them wrestling-specific. We know, your mind is blown, right? The Signature Fight Short features a four-way stretch fabric, allowing you to move easily through positions and even to the splits to defend a single leg. Rather than using scratchy Velcro, the waist is secured with an elastic waistband and an internal pull string that ties on the inside so your fingers won’t get caught. Amazing! While the style and look is similar to many board shorts, we made the fit slightly looser to provide the relaxed fit that wrestlers enjoy. One of the greatest benefits of the WrestlingMart Fight Shorts is that they are perfect for almost any activity. Many of our customers love to wear these to the beach, hiking, running, weighting, and when watching the Food Network while cutting weight.

Even if you have not yet adopted the fight short as your preferred training garment, get ready to see them a lot more – even as competition uniforms. While most wrestlers love wearing singlets to compete in, and prefer to not have loose clothing while competing, a growing number of people are looking for another option. Especially at the beginner and youth levels, athletes who are new to the sport don’t immediately feel comfortable in a skin tight “leotard” that leaves little to the imagination. Many tournaments, such as FloNationals have already begun implementing the fight-shorts-and-compression-shirt combo as their competition attire. The state of Washington also recently announced that youth and middle school programs can now officially opt for a shirt and shorts uniform instead of singlets for competition if they so choose. It is highly unlikely that the singlet will be replaced by board shorts at the elite levels, but having the option at the youth level is good news. We hope that it will make the sport more accessible by easing some of the stigmas associated with wrestling in “tights”.

The shorts are very comfortable. The material is very nice. It can stretch, but it's not too stretchy. Also the material is breathable and dries quickly.

These shorts are light, breathable and perfect for long practices. They provide plenty of mobility and airiness. The material is light and strong.

Shorts were tight and flexible, fit at the waist, and had a perfect length down the thighs. Love these shorts. Will definitely be back for more.

These shorts are made from high quality material and have held up through the test of time. These are by far my favorite pair of shorts that I've owned. The different colorways and designs offer a whole wardrobe of different styles.

Product fit great and is super soft. It feels very breathable and I don't feel constricted with them on the mat. I like how comfortable they are. It gives you that same freedom feel as if you have a singlet on, without wearing one. Over time (few months) and a few washes, the Velcro is not as cohesive as it used to be.

My son is 51 inches tall and 60 pounds. What size would you recommend?

    Joey P.'s picture

We would recommend a youth XL. However, we have a great and simple exchange policy if they do not fit.
