Finding the Right Wrestling Singlets

Although you may have heard otherwise, no, you don’t have to wear “those leotard-tights things” in practice. Normal practice attire is a t-shirt and shorts. The wrestling singlet has been the standard uniform for competition since the 1960s; before that, most people just wrestled shirtless. It is a one-piece, tight fitting outfit typically made of either a Nylon/lycra-spandex blend or a polyester/lycra-Spandex blend. There are several styles and cuts to choose from, with different patterns and color combinations to match your personal preference or school colors.

The different cuts are high-cut, low-cut, and women’s-cut. The high-cut singlet is the standard uniform that is in compliance with all junior high, high school, and college competition. The low-cut, or ‘freestyle’ cut, is what you are used to seeing Olympians like John Smith and Dave Schultz wearing. This style isn’t as popular as it once was, but you can still find it, and it is acceptable to wear at most non-scholastic events. Finally, women’s cut is simply a singlet that is more ideally shaped to conform to the female figure.

Most singlets can be customized in one way or another. For ‘stock singlets' your only customization will be done with screen printing. If you don’t find the color combination you like, you can create fully custom-sewn singlets from brands like Matman and Cliff Keen and add screen printed logos or text. The newest and most popular way to get custom singlets is by sublimation. This is when you start with white fabric and your design is inked into the material, then sewn together to make a custom singlet with a design that will never fade out or crack. Most fully custom singlets have a minimum order of 12. However, we do have an option for a no-minimum sublimated singlet.  Here in our store and online we have some stock singlets from top brands, as well as some of our own WrestlingMart brand singlets with our own cool designs on sublimated singlets.

One of the biggest questions about singlets is sizing. Singlet sizing primarily goes off weight, rather than height, waste size, etc. Although most manufactures have similar sizing, there can be some variation between brands. If you are unsure of your size, please contact us. If you happen to get the wrong size, you can easily exchange it, and we will pay for the shipping.

Here at WrestlingMart, we are fully staffed with experienced wrestlers with knowledge of all the different singlet styles. If you have any questions on our wrestling singlets, please give us a call at 1-888-887-8893.
