This soap is very useful every time I shower after practice and tournaments, and gets rid of germs easily.

Should I get the soap, the wipes or the cream to prevent ringworm?

    Joey's picture

Danny, this is a difficult question, because there is no perfect answer. All three of those products can help in different ways to prevent skin infections, such as ringworm. The foam/cream is a barrier that helps prevent things from settling on the skin while you're wrestling. It does not have any anti-bacterial or anti-fungal properties whatsoever. Think of skin cream like putting on sunscreen on a hot day - it's preventative.

The absolute best way to prevent skin infections is by getting into the shower and scrubbing with soap BEFORE you stop sweating. That means no lying around in your own sweat for an hour after practice or a match. Once you've stopped sweating and your skin dries, most skin infection preventing products are close to useless. That said, soaps like Defense and Super Body Care have great essential oils in them that tend to do a better job of penetrating the skin and fighting to prevent ringworm and other infections before they really take hold. Again, I would urge you to get in the shower as fast as humanly possible after wrestling.

I realize, not everyone has quick access to showers at their workout facility. That's where wipes come in. They are for the times when you can't get to the shower immediately (such as tournaments), and need to disinfect any exposed areas. The wipes use alcohol and other ingredients to actually kill bacteria and other microbes such as fungi that are on the skin. Wipes are to be used after practice or after a match, but BEFORE you stop sweating - usually within the first 15 minutes or so after you stop wrestling or working out. If you wait until you've completely cooled down, you are simply inviting ringworm to come hang out with you.

To answer your question - the type of product that will be best may depend on your own personal situation. You may even want some combination of two or three products. However, it's not going to be the product itself that prevents ringworm, it's how and when you use it. I hope this helps.
