Yes, we have extremely small wrestling shoes.
With youth wrestling becoming more and more popular year after year, and kids getting into the sport at younger and younger ages, customers ask us every day “Do you carry youth wrestling shoes?”. Yes, unlike many big box retailers that don’t specialize in wrestling, we carry wrestling shoes in all sizes. From the itty bitty kids wearing a size K10 to the beastly men in size 16 or 17… we have something for everyone.
When looking for the right size for youth wrestling shoes, we tend to go with the mantra of “if you’re not sure, go bigger.” Children grow at an incredible rate. This is no secret. If you’re a parent, it may seem like you’re buying new clothes and shoes every two weeks. Although many advanced wrestlers like a more snug fit for their shoes (once they’ve stopped growing), we generally don’t recommend that for youth wrestlers. In most cases, kids spend more time learning athletic skills and techniques than really intense competition or training. That means if they have some extra room to grow, it’s usually not that big of deal, compared to a high school senior looking to become a state placer. Another thing to note –wrestling shoes generally run a little smaller than sneakers, so if you’re just getting started, be generous with the size you pick.
Until recently, the wrestling shoe options for youth wrestlers were extremely limited. It used to be that there were maybe one or two styles available to choose from for youth sizes, and it was difficult to find anyone who even had those sizes in stock. Although the number of choices for youth shoes is still much less than adult sizes, we have seen a rapid increase in the number of options available in smaller sizes over the past few years. Our vendors, like ASICS, Adidas, and Nike have all been working hard to create more exciting and high quality styles in for youth wrestlers, and also have extended the size ranges of some of their more popular adult shoes.
Every day, wrestlers of all ages are in our showroom trying on shoes. We have seen that style and fit preferences are not only reserved for the “big boys”. It may be true that someone who is a beginner at any age may choose an “entry level” shoe because they have not figured out what like yet and just need something that will work. We have those. We also have options for both youth and adult wrestlers who have a little more experience and are ready for an upgrade to something that fits their personal needs. There are also variations in style and fit just between brands, even among the more basic shoes. In our experience, there is little to no difference in quality for most shoes in similar price ranges, just difference personal preference. Each shoe style has its ups and downs in terms of width, flexibility, grip, ankle support, etc.
